Advancing Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Through Tissue Donation

The Ty Louis Campbell (TLC) Foundation is proud to continue supporting the Gift from a Child initiative, having contributed $100,000 to this vital program since 2020. Our funding helps support the role of Tissue Navigators at designated Centers of Excellence across the U.S., including Stanford, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Lurie Children’s Hospital, Children’s National, Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, and Weill Cornell Medicine. These centers coordinate, process, store, and share post-mortem materials, enabling research across institutions and accelerating discoveries that can save lives.

Tragically, thousands of children die from brain tumors each year. Doctors and researchers often do not know why treatments fail, leaving families and clinical teams with unanswered questions. By facilitating the collection of brain tumor tissue from children who do not survive, Gift from a Child provides scientists with the critical materials needed to understand how tumors develop, behave, and respond to treatment. This knowledge allows doctors to design more precise, effective therapies for each child, reducing harmful side effects and improving quality of life.

The Tissue Navigators plays a central role in this process. They educate patients, families, and staff about the value of tissue donation, guide families through the donation process at the time of a child’s passing, and coordinate donations from centers without formal programs. Without this dedicated support at each site, these invaluable donations would not be possible.

By supporting Gift from a Child, TLC is helping ensure that each donation has the maximum impact—advancing pediatric brain tumor research and bringing hope to children and families facing these devastating diseases.
