As the sun rose on Saturday, September 14, 158 athletes gathered together, doing final bike checks, placing their running shoes in perfect position for speedy transitions and slipping into their wet suits for a 7am start of the 7th annual TYathlon at Lake Mahopac, NY.
Within 50 minutes, our first participant crossed the finish line. At 49:38, David Martin celebrated by cheering on other racers as they completed this test of endurance. Once the Sprint Triathlon was completed and the racers left the course, our newest event featured a 100-yard dash for the young athletes as well as the young at heart…and may have been the cutest race we ever watched! Immediately following the dash, 161 participants gathered to participate in a scenic 5K along Lake Mahopac. The MSA Cheerleaders from Mahopac enthusiastically welcomed each runner back at the finish line!
The 7thannual TYathlon hosted over 50 volunteers and 319 total participantsand, with their help, TLC raised over $43,000 to support the Ty Louis Campbell Fellowship at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell. Through this investment, TLC pays the salary of an experienced doctor/researcher who is dedicated to collecting genetic bio-information on all types of pediatric brain tumor samples in order to provide individual treatment protocols with precision medicine to children battling cancer.
